Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

DBT is a modified form of CBT. The very term dialectical refers to ‘working with opposites. These opposites are ‘acceptance’ and ‘change’. A large part of this treatment focuses on distress tolerance and attempts to teach individual’s skills to tolerate and cope with distress, while also learning how to accept challenges more readily. The treatment also integrates emotional regulation (learning to regulate one’s emotions more readily) and interpersonal effectiveness (learning how to identify and express your needs). This treatment has proven especially helpful for people with personality disorders, however elements of it can be used to address a wide variety of conditions.

At MVS Group, elements of this treatment are usually used as an adjunct to other forms of treatment, as indicated by the patient and prescribed by the psychologist.
